Plant-based news - October 2025
What’s new in the world of plant-based innovation? Here’s our monthly roundup of launches, partnerships, and milestones shaping the future of food:
Schouten Europe – Dutch pioneer Schouten Europe has unveiled a new and improved plant-based tuna – an upgrade in both taste and texture: ready to use cold in salads, perfect for pizzas and ready meals – designed to meet consumer expectations while addressing overfishing. “Continuous improvement is what drives us,” said Annemiek Vervoort, Product Manager at Schouten. 🐟🌱
Garden Gourmet – refreshes its most popular products with a new blend of ingredients – delivering great taste, juiciness, and balanced nutrition: high in plant protein and fibre, enriched with vitamin B12. As part of their mission, by the end of 2025, 75% of soy protein will come from farms engaged in #RegenerativeAgriculture – supporting soil health, biodiversity, and resilience. Now available across Europe!
Mitsui & Co. – Japan enters the plant-based sushi scene – straight from the heart of sashimi and sushi culture, Japan introduces a low-cost plant-based tuna for sushi and sashimi. Affordable, sustainable, and authentic – proving that the future of seafood can be both traditional and plant-based. 🍣
Minor Figures – UK-based brand Minor Figures has launched Barista Oat (Regenerative) – its first barista-standard oat milk made with regeneratively grown oats. The oats are sourced from Wildfarmed, a regenerative food and farming business that focuses on restoring soil health and reducing carbon emissions. Gluten-free, fortified with vitamins and minerals, and made in the UK. 🌾🌍
Planted x Subway Switzerland – Planted celebrates a milestone partnership with Subway Switzerland! You can now enjoy the planted.chicken Teriyaki Sandwich in every Subway across the country. Co-founder Pascal Bieri highlights what makes it special: “It’s not just about reach. It’s about redefining normal – showing millions that plant-based can be better: tasty, healthy, and sustainable.” 🥪🌱
Wege Siostry – Polish brand Wege Siostry introduces its latest innovation – Cashew Mascarpone Cream. 100% plant-based, lactose- and gluten-free, with a creamy texture and mild, dairy-like flavour. Ideal for both desserts and savoury recipes. 👩🍳
Eat Just x American Airlines – Following discussions with PETA, American Airlines is now serving Eat Just’s vegan eggs in Premium Economy on coast-to-coast flights! More demand for vegan eggs means fewer hens suffering. A promising step toward permanent plant-based menu items in the airline industry. 🍳✈️
One Planet Pizza – Joe Hill of One Planet Pizza CEO celebrate a record year: +68% growth and a brand-new listing at Morrisons UK. Their latest frozen stars? The Margherita Pizzetta and Cheezy Garlic Flatbread – both 100% vegan, hand-stretched, and ready in under 8 minutes. UK’s next freezer favourites have landed! 🌿🍕
European Parliament – The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development has backed a proposal to ban “meaty” names like steak or burger for plant-based foods. The move reignites the ongoing debate between tradition and transparency in EU food labelling. 🏛️
Jay&Joy – PETA Vegan Food Awards 2025 Winner. Big news for French brand Jay&Joy! Their plant-based cheese Albert has been named Best Vegan Cheese by PETA UK. A recognition that ethical, innovative, and delicious food can go hand in hand. 🌿🧀
More proof that the plant-based category isn’t slowing down. It’s branching out! 💚
Congratulations to all pioneers driving plant-based innovation forward! 💪
